Is Momentum Shifting Towards GOP On ObamaCare

The Slaughter Rule or Deem and Pass has died in the House.  The controversial rule would have allowed the House Democrats to pass the rule rather than actually vote on the Senate version of ObamaCare.  As if we are too dumb to figure out that passing the rule means passing ObamaCare.  Now the plan for Sunday is three big votes: the first to bring the “fix-it” bill to the House floor. The second on the bill. Then the final vote would be on the Senate bill itself.

I question whether this is the actually order of the votes because earlier this morning chaos erupted at the Rules Committee because a bill has to be passed into law before it can be amended.  Otherwise, the bill would be changed and have to go back to the Senate and be voted on again.  The reconciliation proposals would be moot.  So there is no way that the Democrats can lawfully pass the amendments before passing the Senate Bill and getting the President’s signature.  This would be another lawsuit waiting to happen just as the Slaughter Rule would have been.  That is more than likely why the Democrats dropped it because they knew it would not hold up in court.

Especially a Supreme Court that the President publically called out and the Democrats jeered at the State of the Union Address.

Nancy Pelosi Wants ObamaCare To Pass So We Know What Is In It

PlastiGirl has put on her old thinking cap to generate some new ideas to help her get the votes she needs to pass ObamaCare.  Obviously, she does not have the votes needed right now even though she claims that she does or they would have passed the Senate bill through the House in order to avoid reconciliation.  Today, Plasti delivered a speech at the 2010 Legislative Conference for the National Association of Counties (NACo). This year marks the 75th anniversary of the organization.

She started her comments with, “Your common responsibilities bring you to Washington with a common cause: to strengthen the partnership between America’s counties and the federal government.  It is in that spirit that I have come here today.  It’s in that spirit that we will work together to, as your theme says, to ‘find solutions in tough times.”  Somehow I do not feel comfortable with Plasti suggesting that the federal government should be walking arm in arm with local government.  Our local government is the area where we can affect the most change in order to get government intrusion out of our lives.

PlastiGirl reminded those who were listening, whom it was that started this Progressive Movement in America by saying, “As you are in Washington this week, we stand at the doorstep of history, ready to realize a centuries old dream, started by a Republican President, Teddy Roosevelt.  He was the one who started this country thinking in this direction, and we are deeply in his debt.  But, we are a hundred years late.”  She went on to relate that Teddy wanted universal healthcare.  She then made this preposterous claim, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”  WHAT!?  They have to pass the bill so we know what is in it?!  I thought they have been telling us for a year what is in this legislation.  Who has ever heard of passing a bill so we can actually she what is in that bill?

She continued with more of the insanity, “Furthermore, we believe that health care reform, again I said at the beginning of my remarks, that we sent the three pillars that the President’s economic stabilization and job creation initiatives were education and innovation—innovation begins in the classroom—clean energy and climate, addressing the climate issues in an innovative way to keep us number one and competitive in the world with the new technology, and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform.  Health insurance reform is about jobs.  This legislation alone will create 4 million jobs, about 400,000 jobs very soon.”  Excuse me?  This piece of crap tax and spend bill is going to create 4 million jobs?!  This is the first time I have ever heard that claim and I would love to know exactly how that is going to happen.  The government will be driving insurance companies into the ground, which will be job loss.  Doctors will get out of the practice because of the impossible regulations and lack of payments: more job loss.

Then she went on to talk about the courage that will be needed to pass this legislation.  That has been her theme lately.  Courage was needed to pass Social Security and MediCare.  Courage will be needed to set up the infrastructure for government healthcare.  Any person with a brain knows that socialism does not require courage, it requires a desire to control.

President Obama Pulls The Nuclear Option

For a man that has promised that he will dismantle our nuclear weapon program, Obama seems to have an affinity for the nuclear option.  Okay, so I’m not talking about a real nuclear warhead and a real nuclear winter, but ObamaCare unleashed on this country is pretty darn close.  Today, the President delivered yet another address about his plans for health insurance reform.  This message was suppose to inform us that the President had embraced the good ideas of the Republicans and would be including them in his plan.  But that is not what I heard today.  I heard the Illustrious One call on the Democrats to charge forward without the Republicans and get ObamaCare through with reconciliation.

The President made this clear as he stood in the White House surrounded by the photo-op placed doctors donning their white jackets.  He said, “We have debated this issue thoroughly, not just for the past year but for decades.  Reform has already passed the House with a majority.  It has already passed the Senate with a supermajority of 60 votes.  And now it deserves the same kind of up or down vote that was cast on welfare reform, that was cast on the Children’s Health Insurance Program, that was used for COBRA health coverage for the unemployed, and, by the way, for both Bush tax cuts — all of which had to pass Congress with nothing more than a simple majority.”  There it is, the nuclear option.  The President also called on the three people, outside of Washington D.C. and the unions, that support ObamaCare to get out like the tea partiers and make their support known by saying, ” And I urge every American who wants this reform to make their voice heard as well — every family, every business, every patient, every doctor, every nurse, every physician’s assistant.  Make your voice heard.”

Obama has not noticed that the overwhelming voice of We The People has spoken.  We do not want his reform, which is actually a tax and spend bill.  We do not want government intrusion in our lives.  It does not matter how often the President promises that he does not “believe we should give government bureaucrats or insurance company bureaucrats more control over health care in America.  I believe it’s time to give the American people more control over their health care and their health insurance.”  We know that the only reason the government would power forward with this legislation that has little support is for nefarious reasons.  The government desires to build the infrastructure for government insurance.

How reconciliation will work is that the House and Senate pass a concurrent resolution, which I assume will have the President’s changes.  This resolution instructs one or more committees to report changes to the legislation by a certain set date.  Those committees send their reports to the budget committeee, which combines them into a single omnibus bill. In the Senate, the reconciliation bill then gets only 20 hours of debate before the final vote. This means the bill only needs 51 Senators to vote in support of the legislation.

If this gets through, the country will never be the same.  It will be a form of nuclear winter.

The Health Care Summit: The Joke It Promised To Be

I have maintained for the past two weeks that the Republicans should not even show up for the Health Care Summit being held today.  The GOP leadership decided to go ahead and show up.  I also maintained that if they did show up and the President presented anything except a blank piece of paper, that the Republicans should get up and walk out.  They are still sitting in this Summit currently, which has just taken a break for lunch.  The day has been an utter joke and waste of time.

President Obama has harped repeatedly on time limits, especially after Republican members make statements.  John Boehner finally asked what the limits were since they had not been specified and McConnell points out that Dems have gotten 52 minutes compared to Repubs 24 minutes.  There was no real answer from the President, but I can gather what the President’s goal is because he stated it today.  The meeting is set to last six hours and the President has promised that they’ll get this settled before the day is done.  Of course, we know what an Obama promise is worth – zip!  Plus, my common sense brain reminds me that they have been at this healthcare insurance reform effort for a year and gotten nothing accomplished.  The President gave a clue on his way to the Summit of what the plan is if this does not work.  A reporter asked if Obama had a plan B and the President responded, “I’ve always got plans.”

Republican Alexander Lamar started the Summit by calling out the Democrats on their threats of reconciliation, which I believe would be the President’s real Plan B.  The Wall Street Journal has actually detailed a Plan B which is a scaled back plan covering only 15 million of the uninsured and expanding on MediCaid.  It also does even less reform and barely cuts costs.  Senator Alexander also called on the Democrats to do this piece by piece instead of as a large package.

PlastiGirl then declares that health care is a right and not a priviledge and brings up Teddy Kennedy.  Where is the theatre dramatics?  Come on Plasti, throw yourself across the table as you emote about Teddy and declare, “Let’s do this for Teddy!”  One thing that becomes obvious and apparent is that the President’s thin skin is showing and this sideshow is going nowhere.  Once again, our tax dollars at work…being wasted.

Time To Call The White House’s Bluff, Republicans

The President is so proud of his idea for healthcare reform that he released the details quietly on the Whitehouse.gov website this morning.  Where is the primetime press conference?  Where is the national address?  The President has made those kinds of tactics a staple of his plans to implement ObamaCare.  But not this time and the reason is obvious.  ObamaCare is crap!  The President can twist and contort the plans from both the Senate and the House anyway he wants, but the plan is still garbage.  House Minority Leader John Boehner claimed after looking over the President’s plan that it doubles down on failure and puts Thursday’s Healthcare Summit in peril.

And now the White House is prepared to play chicken with the Republicans as The Plum Line points out.  White House advisors threatened on a conference call this morning that if the Republicans filibuster on this plan, then the Senate was going to use reconciliation – that requires only 51 votes – to pass ObamaCare.  I say the Republicans should call their bluff.  Do not show up for this summit on Thursday.  Filibuster this load of dung.  Let the Democrats and the President go down with this sinking ship.  If the Democrats think this ObamaCare legislation and reconciliation is going to get them more votes in November, then have at it because I know that the American people will not stand for this bill being crammed down our throats.  We have let the government know through Tea Parties, town halls, emails and phone calls that we do not want this kind of reform that is anything but reform.

Obama’s plan rolls in at $950 billion dollars, includes the word “tax” thirty-five times, increases fees on brand name drugs, increases the tax base and keeps the Cadillac tax, calls for a comprehensive data base for all of our medical information to be readily available and increases the fee assessed to people who decide to opt out of health insurance coverage.  And that is just for starters.  The public option is missing, but the insurance exchange is in this plan.  And for a little comic relief: the President claims that this will not add to the deficit.  Pretty laughable coming from a man who lied and accused the Republicans of claiming that their plan would cost nothing when in reality the Republicans claimed their plan would not raise taxes a penny.

The Heathcare Summit on Thursday should be very interesting.  I expect to witness a room full of Democrats looking at each other stupidly.

Obama Has New Plan For ObamaCare

The President used his weekly address today to urge Republicans and Democrats to work together during the upcoming Healthcare Summit to pass ObamaCare.  Let me be clear, I continue to call this monstrosity ObamaCare because this is still ObamaCare we are talking about, not healthcare reform.  The Democrats have been unable to put together their two bills and so the President has stepped in and will present his own plan using pieces from both bills.  Is this not a complete and utter act of ignoring the American people?  We have rejected both bills.  The Republicans have rejected both bills.  The President wants to bring the Republicans inside to help develop a new plan.  And he formulates his own plan using the rejected bills?!  This is not bi-partisanship!

The Marxist Progressive vein snaking through the government continues even as the President plays bait and switch and talks out of both sides of his mouth.  Reuters is reporting that the new agreement will be a combined budget reconciliation bill.  This means that the bill will only need 51 votes in the Senate to pass this piece of garbage.  So what is the point of a summit?  The Republicans should not attend this meeting at all.  Instead, they should schedule a press conference and present their own bills – one from the House and one from the Senate.

There is rumor that there will be items that would be attractive to Republicans in the plan, but as long as those ideas are enclosed in a bill that also contains healthcare decision boards, a public option and increased taxes, the Republicans should do nothing but burn the bill.  The Republicans would like to slowly dismantle the healthcare system we have now and rebuild it and that seems to be the best plan.  Because any overhaul the Democrats have in mind is actually an overthrow of freedom.

Unions Ink Deal On ObamaCare In Dead Of Night

The transparency of the Obama administration continues as yet another deal is inked while America sleeps.  Big Labor came in swinging when it was revealed that the final healthcare reform tax and spend bill would contain a “cadillac tax” to help pay for the legislation.  This tax would have hit union members hard, many of whom are middle class workers.  The President completely supported the tax initially because the hard truth that someone has to pay for this bloated government control measure was obvious.

The President has been meeting with labor union heads at the White House for the past few days and finally reached an agreement last night around midnight.  And another payoff can be added to list as well as a refiguring of how much this measure will cost.  I had thought that perhaps the unions would swallow this tax in exchange for a Card Check deal, but apparently they are getting something better.  Union members will not have to pay tax on their plans until 2018 and at that time, the insurance exchange will be open for union members to join.  But that is not all because anyone with common sense can see what is happening here.  Until 2018, the unions are going to look like a real good option to join for workers who have cadillac plans but do not belong to unions.  Now they will want to join in order to get the exemption.  This appears to be a win-win for everybody except America.

Democratic Representative Joe Courtney, a leading critic of the Senate tax, said “Right now I think that this is a real uphill battle.  There’s a high degree of skepticism about it.”  The revised deal raises the tax’s income threshold and excludes supplemental coverage for dental and vision.  There was word that talks are still underway because some unions are not happy with this deal either.  And this still will have to get Senate approval where the “cadillac tax” was added.

One thing is for sure, the unions got this President in office and have supported ObamaCare to the point of violence, so he owes them on everything.  This is why Andy Stern, head of SEIU, practically has his own room at the White House because he has visited so much.  We live in an Oligarchy with many pulling the strings of the President Puppet and the labor unions are just one of those groups.  This is why we cannot fail in the 2010 elections.  We must start closing the doors on these special interest groups that run this country.
