The revelation that McCain’s pick for running mate, Sarah Palin, has a 17-year-old daughter who is pregnant has started a firestorm with the media and blogs. Gov. Palin decided to reveal the information about her daughter, not as damage control, but to refute blatant lies being spread on blogs (Daily Kos in particular) that she had faked her own pregnancy to cover for her daughter and that her newborn child is really her daughter’s. This is something that is private and should never have had to be brought into the public square. Barack Obama came out yesterday and repeated his thought that candidates’families are off limits. I commend him and agree at least with the idea that the candidates’ children are off limits. Of course, the mainstream media has been eating this up since they were just waiting for something to attack Gov. Palin with. Only it won’t work and here is why: Progressives support abortion and infanticide while conservatives are disappointed by teen pregnancy, but believe in supporting the mother and helping her to make a good decision whether it be adoption or keeping the baby.
The following comments made by Barack Obama a couple of months back reveal how progressives feel about teen pregnancy: “Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.” So babies are mistakes, not living and breathing human beings. Actually, no different than an STD.
And now we see Gov. Palin coming forward in support of her daughter: “We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the Palins said in the statement. “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.” Bristol will marry and keep the baby. It is a very hard thing and not a recommended thing – but a mistake and punishment?! This will only give Gov. Palin one more plus on her side. How much more like us and human can she get. And while commentators criticize Gov. Palin for putting her daughter through this, imagine how her daughter would feel if she had to live with the fact that her mother gave up the Vice Presidency because of her pregnancy. That would be far worse than the harsh glare of the liberal media.
So we see who has the values that America can stand behind. Just let the progressives open their mouths and they will continue to bury themselves. And BTW, the media does realize that focusing on this takes attention off Obama, right?
Of course I didn’t watch this – I was watching Michael Phelps kick ass. Far more interesting. I also try not to tune in to MSNBC so that blood doesn’t shoot out of my eyes. I did however catch part of the story being discussed on Meet The Press this morning. Why would Rick Warren be hosting a political interview? And I believe it took place in Saddleback’s sancturay – highly inappropriate. Anyway, Rick Warren asked John McCain what he felt was his greatest moral failing and McCain said it was the failure of his first marriage. Then McCain was asked what he thought America’s greatest moral failure was. Now this is a complete give-me answer. So easy, especially if you are trying to reach your conservative base. Does McCain give the easy answer “Abortion”? Oh no, he decides to give this answer: “Throughout our existence, perhaps we have not devoted ourselves to causes greater than our self-interest, although we have been the best at it of anybody in the world. I think after 9/11, my friends, instead of telling people to go shopping or take trips, we should have told Americans to join the PeaceCorps, AmericCorp, the military, expand our volunteers, expand what you’re doing and expand your great missions that you are doing [at Saddleback Church]…especially in Rawanda. A little pandering here, the first words of your very successful book is, “This is not about you.” And you know what that really also means, serve a cause greater than your self-interest.”
What?! Has he been getting lessons from Obama? And I know he said he was pandering, but goodness, HE WAS KISSING @$$, I MEAN PANDERING. What in the world was this sideshow? I’m glad I missed the darn thing. Especially since Obama would not have his teleprompter, so I’m sure his answers were, “My greatest moral failing is ah…ah…umm…you know…hell, I’m perfect, I’m the Messiah, you should all be worshipping me in this sanctuary.” Hand me the remote, I need some more Olympic relief.
Yesterday, President Bush signed the massive housing bailout bill. Supposedly this will stabilize financial markets and help people who obviously have no clue how to manage their finances get back on track. The government giving our tax money to banks will stabilize the market?! Since when is increasing debta stabilizing force? The President had once threatened to veto the bill, but now proves himself to yet again be a RINO, a neo-con, a sell-out. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson was there for the signing. I’m sure no one could see it, but I’m positive that Paulson was pulling the string attached to the signing hand of the puppet – I mean President- of the United States. The President wasn’t alone on this though. Many of his fellow Republicans in Congress joined him since they are facing tough re-election contests. I’m guessing they don’t care about the rest of our votes.
So once again, I find my responsible self being punished for the stupidity of others. I mean, what the hell do people think the term ‘adjustable’ means? And did they really gamble and think that it would adjust in their favor although 9 times out of 10 it will not? Did these people really believe that they could buy a house with no money down? And don’t even get me started on the banking institutions who took the risks on these loans. How many more banks does the government think they can bail out before we are so saddled with debt that it will take three or more generations to crawl out from under it? Of course, that is assuming that America is still even here then. Just like showing the world we are paper tigers gets us hit with 9/11, so having a paper economy will prove to stabilize nothing and protect us from nothing. Wait until China and Russia decide that it is time to hit. They won’t need bombs.
And here is something else to chew on: The government is going to be backing these newly re-financed home loans. So then, who owns these homes when these people inevitably default once again? There are these new senior home loans that have become pretty popular called ‘reverse mortgages’ and they are also government backed. At the end of the term, who owns those homes? Do you see where I am going with this? Private home ownership will be a thing of the past and in its place…government housing.
Bill O’Reilly has brought it to the public’s attention that one of Florida’s Representatives to Congress does not reside in the state. I’m pretty sure that is against the rules and I’m thinking that is why the FBI is investigating. Wexler was first elected to Congress in 1996. At the time, he did own a home here but sold it in 1997 and moved the family to Maryland. Now he is playing a game that stinks to high heaven. He claims his in-laws address in Delray Beach as his official residence and thus maintains his driver’s license and voter and car registrations under that address. When I moved to Florida from Colorado, I had 10 days to change everything over. I guess Maryland’s rules are different – yeah right!
There is one glaring problem with Wexler using his in-law’s address: they live in one of those senior neighborhoods here and the rules state that children cannot live there for more than two months annually. Wexler has children. Hmmm…so he is trying to claim that he mostly lives here and not in Maryland with his family. Yeah, I believe that. Just like I’m suppose to believe that he can identify with the needs of his constiuents especially when it comes to issues like property taxes – which he obviously does not pay in Florida. This man is a farce.
The really sad part of this whole story is the fact that Wexler moved from here in 1997. It is now 2008. How many times have the liberal morons in his district re-elected him? Supposedly this has been no secret and Bill O’Reilly just jumped on this story to get back at Wexler for statements he made against FOX News. If this is how much worth people put into the National and State Constitutions then why don’t we just change things up and start voting randomly for other counties’ and states’ representatives. Who gives a crap if they can identify with constituents or not? Wait a minute-we’re already there. The politicians don’t care and that is why Wexler has been comfortable doing this with no feelings of guilt.
Here I go again – Kick the bums out!!!!
The government has done it once again and indeed, it is the Democrats at fault once again. I’m sure this party claims to be for the little people. I could have sworn that Nancy Pelosi all but promised that if the Democrats were given Congress, gas prices would go down. And now almost two years later the Democrats have once again voted along party lines to block drilling on the outer continental shelf. Never mind that China and Cuba are already there. A subcommittee had a bill brought before them this last week that would have authorized drilling on the outer continental shelf and was voted down 9 to 6. Here are those that were against and for:
AGAINST: Norman Dicks (WA), James Moran(VA), Maurice Hinchey (NY), John Olver (MA), Alan Mollohan (WV), Tom Udall (NM), Ben Chandler (KY), Ed Pastor (AZ), and Dave Obey (WI).
FOR: Todd Tiahrt (KS), John Peterson (PA), Jo Ann Emerson (MO), Virgil Goode, Jr. (VA), Ken Calvert (CA), and Jerry Lewis (CA).
Give those that were against a piece of your mind. Off-shore drilling is one of the safest ways to drill and is so far out that it does not obstruct the views of people like myself whoever enjoy hanging out at the beach. These government officials just aren’t listening even with American Solutions petition up to 650,000 signatures and Chuck Norris on board. How much more before Americans decide to rise up and take the country back? I’m reading a fiction book right now called The Lost Constitution and it chronicles how Rhode Island was against the Constitution and many citizens were uncomfortable with the idea of it. Perhaps they foresaw a time when apathetic citizens would let the government grow its power and destroy the principles this country was founded on.
That’s right, I want all of you to just shut up! I’m sick of it! Today’s press conference with the President and subsequent Democratic answer have pushed me to my breaking point. Hello – we are your constituents, your bosses. You are there to represent us and to keep this country together. I’m tired of the finger pointing: Democrats at Republicans, Republicans at Democrats, Congress at the President and the President at the Congress. This doesn’t get anything done. I’m tired of the lipservice too!
You know what drove me a few years back to check into some of the conspiracy theories that have been floating around for decades? The way this government has run this country. Glenn Beck wrote a column for CNN.com calling us a suicidal nation. I believe we are even worse than suicidal – there seems to be an effort to destroy this nation. That is the only explanation for why these politicians could care less what we think or what their inaction or action does to this country. They try to manipulate us into relying solely on them for everything and then they withhold to make sure we are truly broken.
The answers to our energy problems should have been worked out long ago. Our reliance on OPEC caused us to give up other options that would really be helping now. We should already be turning coal to oil. We should already be drilling everywhere we find oil since we know how to do it in an environmentally safe way. The standards placed on cars should have been in place long ago. More money should have been put towards public transportation systems that are safe, cheaper and run on alternative energy. Now it is too late to really make a difference anytime soon, but we should still implement these things – NOW!
The Fed caused the Great Depression and is winding us that way again. As I listened to the President check off all the reasons why gas is so high, he forgot the fundamental problem – the Fed and the government have helped devalue our dollar. John Kennedy was the only President in recent time to try to get the dollar backed by something of value which was silver. He died right before he could make that happen and possibly is one of the reasons he needed to be taken out. The Fed has helped banks find easier ways to trap people in more debt. The Bible tells us that the debtor is slave to the lender. How many of you are slaves because of your debt? Our country is a debtor nation. They have lulled the people into believing that we cannot fall and are the richest and most powerful nation. It seems to me that this is really an illusion. We sit precariously on a precipice and it won’t take much to push us over. God forbid if a major terrorist attack were to hit us anytime soon. And maybe that is what this is all leading up to.
I fear for our country when I think of the three choices that are up there running for President. It is going to be one of them. These rich, career politicians need to go and make room for people who really care about America and bringing her back to what she was meant to be, but that is probably a pipe dream. The government has been succeeding in so many ways. Our children are indoctrinated idiots who have become sexualized and worship at the altar of violence and sex found on TV, in movies and video games. Most don’t think for themselves, are undisciplined and unmotivated. Why do we think there are so many thirty year olds living at home? Just stand in line anywhere for service from a teenager and you’ll agree. Another way that the government is succeeding is by bailing out people and companies when they are failing. Failure is a good thing because it eventually leads to success. Unless of course you have taken the path of the kids I just described.
If the government spent as much time listening to the people and implementation as they do to pocketing lobbyist money and attending dinner parties, they might actually get something done. But the only thing they are concerned with is keeping their cushy (sp?) government job. I say we fire them all and start from scratch with real people. I know there are some good government people out there, so then they can re-apply. But right now I say they all pack up their desks and take a long walk – that will help some of our energy problems.
