It is impossible for me to believe that President-elect Barack Obama is genuine in anything that he does. His soaring speeches full of platitudes and re-arranged words stolen from other great orators in history come off as disingenuous because of the history behind Barack Obama. Yesterday on his whistle stop tour, which was a shortened copy-catting of President Lincoln, Obama gave a speech in which he borrowed heavily from the Declaration of Independence, President Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, the Constitution, President Kennedy and John Quincy Adams. Here are the excerpts:
OBAMA: “And we will be called to show patience even as we act with fierce urgency.”
REV. KING: “We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now.”
OBAMA: “And yet, they are were willing to put all they were and all they had on the line – their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor – for a set of ideals that continue to light the world.”
DECLARATION: “We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”
PRESIDENT KENNEDY: “”The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.”
OBAMA: “And that a government of, by and for the people can endure.”
PRESIDENT LINCOLN: “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
OBAMA: “What is required is a new declaration of independence, not just in our nation, but in our own lives – from ideology and small thinking, prejudice and bigotry – an appeal not tor easy instincts, but to our better angels.”
PRESIDENT LINCOLN: “…will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
OBAMA: “The American Revolution was – and remains – an ongoing struggle in the minds and hearts of the people to live up to our founding creed. Starting now, let’s take up our own lives the work of perfecting our union.”
PRESIDENT ADAMS: “The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations.”
Of course it makes perfect sense to borrow words from our Founding Documents and Founding Fathers and great leaders, but they come off flat when spoken from the mouth of a man that does not believe in those ideals. A man that believes in “spreading the wealth” does not believe in a government for the people that is of the people and by the people. A man who sat in a racist church for 20 years does not believe in a revolution of the mind and heart and the better angels of our nature. That is a man that still believes whites are the racists. A man who calls for a new declaration of independence obviously does not believe in the one we already have. And how disingenuous is it for Obama to call on Americans to drop their ideology? That is what makes each of us unique and it is his own ideology that leads him to believe that government is our only option for saving the economy and that middle Americans are bitter and cling to their guns and Bibles.
A man who never served his country in the military and wants to lead the military into failure in Iraq uses them as photo ops in Hawaii shaking their hands but not breaking bread with them and as photo ops in front of their graves where they remain unknown as he lays wreathes before men who sacrificed in a way he could never understand and we are suppose to believe that it is genuine. There are certain days set aside on which all prior presidents have honored the fallen soldiers at Arlington Cemetary, but Obama chose this moment and this time when the entire world is watching in ecstasy his every movement to have the wreath-laying ceremony.
Is Obama genuine when speaking lofty ideals about education in America and making our schools better and smarter and then sends his own children to private schools – even before having the excuse of their safety? And how genuine is the man with all his green baloney when his Inauguration is leaving a carbon footprint that will exceed 575 million pounds of CO2 – a footprint that would take the average household 57,598 years to match? And then we have the actual cost of this little shin-dig which will reportedly come in at a whopping $150 million even as last weekend Obama commented that everybody would have to have a “little skin in the game” when making sacrifices to save the economy.
There is nothing genuine about this man from the American flag on his lapel that he wears occassionally with great reluctance to the American flags that he always makes sure to have in the field of vision behind him. I am not so easily fooled and I predict that within 6 months the bulk of the country will stop being fooled as well.
