Illinois Governor Blagojevich Caught In Scandal

Shocking isn’t it that an Illinois politician would be caught in a scandal.  If there was one thing that should have given voters pause before election day, it should have been the fact that Obama comes out of Chicago.  It should give one even more pause as they see him give his Chicago cronies places in his cabinet and advisory teams.  There is no doubt that Chicago and Illinois politics is corrupt and today the nation received confirmation of that with the arrest of Illinois Governor Blagojevich, Blago from here on out.  It seems that Blago was trying to sell President-elect Obama’s recently vacated Senate seat and the FBI caught him.  Blago was looking for either money, a powerful position in Obama’s administration or running a 501 organization for the union Service Employees International Union or SEIU.

According to transcripts released by the FBI, Obama’s team had told Blago that if he appointed someone that Obama favored for the seat that he would have Obama’s gratitude.  This would indicate that President-elect Obama was not involved in the corruption by offering anything to Blago.  Or does it?  What was meant by “gratitude”?  And most importantly, who talked to Blago from Obama’s team?  As Blago indicates in the transcripts, he talked to somebody.  Did that somebody report Blago and if not, why not?

And an important development was covered by ABC’s Jake Tapper late today.  Obama said during a press conference today, “Obviously like the rest of the people of Illinois I am saddened and sobered by the news that came out of the US attorney’s office today.  But as this is a ongoing investigation involving the governor I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to comment on the issue at this time.”  When a reporter asked if he had any contact with the Governor’s office Obama answered, “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.”  But is that the truth?  Apparently not.

On November 23, 2008, Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod made an appearance on Fox News Chicago and said, “I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”  Now Obama’s team is saying that Axelrod misspoke during this appearance.  Give me a break!  Axelrod ran a seamless campaign for Obama, so there is no way he misspoke here.  Obama is hiding something – why?  He could have taken care of this easily by making sure Blago was reported when he started wheeling and dealing (hopefully Obama’s team did report him) and by admitting that he had given the Governor names of ideal candidates, but never with any promises.  Then I could give him the benefit of the doubt.  But when people start lying and covering, you know there is more to the story.

Based on Obama’s connections, most of whom come right out of Chicago, I really have no trust for this man.  This is where he cut his political teeth.  These are the people he hung out with.  We even have Jeremiah Wright back in the news screeching from the pulpit again.  What a great man of God, calling Elizabeth Hasselback a “dizzy broad”.  And Ayers is all over the place as well promoting books and denying his terrorist ways.  Why are they coming out of the woodwork now?  Because Obama doesn’t have to hide them anymore.

What else will Obama pull out of his closet now that he can?
