The Drudge Report released a news bulletin yesterday about the Pentagon’s plans to deploy U.S. combat troops not to Afghanistan or Iraq, but within the borders of the United States. The Washington Post reports that the Pentagon plans by 2011 to have 20,000 troops trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack, chemical attacks, biological attacks or any other domestic catastrophe. Sounds like a good idea to some people to be sure, but not to a Constitution and freedom loving American like myself. There is absolutely no reason to have boots on the ground in major U.S. cities that are “hanging around” waiting for something to happen. How are they going to pick the cities and will this be broadcast? Seems like an open invitation to terrorists to hit small town USA. This is a ludicrous waste of money and military manpower which is needed overseas right now. Not to mention that Barney “I slobber when I talk” Frank has called for a 25% decrease in the military. And then there is the interesting question of where does this leave Barack Obama’s brownshirt brigade? Will these units or corps work together? Will there be a need for a citizen corp if there are military units around already? Or will these groups work against each other? What exactly is planned for our country here? Is this some smoky room deal or do we have absolute credible terrorist targets that the military is planning for? Kind of like the fact that there really is not much doubt that the government knew 9/11 was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it. Is there something we should know?
The one thing I do know is that there are critics of the change in the Defense Department’s new focus on homeland security. Those critics are both civilian and military and one of the reasons is that this move undermines the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military’s role in domestic law enforcement. But in 2006 Congress passed HR5122 which gave greater authority to the president to declare martial law and deploy the National Guard, whether or not a state’s governor approves. I, like most Americans, don’t want to see AK-47s on the street. Cato Institute Vice President Gene Healy warned of “a creeping militarization” of homeland security and said, “There’s a notion that whenever there’s an important problem, that the thing to do is to call in the boys in green and that’s at odds with our long-standing tradition of being wary of the use of standing armies to keep the peace.”
Glenn Beck discussed this on his radio program and George Noory interviewed Alex Jones on the subject, but the mainstream media is not covering this at all. Now I know Alex Jones can be a conspiracy nut, but he’s not all bad and he made a great point that the police and military members that he talks to are angered by this as well. I love both the police and our military and I have to believe that they would not turn on the American people. But what about Obama’s new Corp groups and what if military families were threatened? I know these are all extremes, but history shows what happens when martial law takes over and when fascism comes to power. I pray that I’m getting my underwear in a wad over nothing. I will be vigilant though.
