President Stronger On Honduras Than Iran

Despite blood running in the streets of Iran for over two weeks now, our President has been very weak and tardy on condemnation of the leadership in the country of Iran where young people have been protesting in the streets about voting fraud and their desire for freedom.  The President waited six days before he said anything more than that he was “deeply troubled” about the events in Iran.  The military coup in Honduras received immediate attention from the President as he joined with his Marxist buddies in condemning the military for ousting Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.

This was the first military coup in Central America in decades and was triggered by Zelaya’s desire to overturn the constitutional law in Honduras allowing a president to serve for only one term.  Mr. Zelaya was voted in as president in 2006 and would have his term end in 2010.  The military made a pre-dawn raid on the President’s residence and sent Zelaya to Costa Rica.  Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez put his own troops on notice to help his buddy Zelaya in any way that he could.  My bet is that Zelaya got the idea to push for more terms than allowed by the actions of Chavez in Venezuela who a few months ago bucked the system and put to a vote the ability for him to run again for a third term.  Venezuela law only allows for two terms.  Chavez was successful in a heated decision.

Despite the fact that Honduras has known relative calm from an earlier era of dictatorships, Zelaya has moved the country far to the left.  President Obama was quick to join the EU in condemning the coup and said, “Any existing tensions and disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue free from any outside interference.”  And yet Obama pledged the U.S. to “stand on the side of democracy” and to work with other nations to resolve this matter peacefully.  The President also declared that the coup was “not legal”.

Congressional President Roberto Micheletti was sworn in as the new President and has said if Zelaya returns to Honduras, he will be arrested.  Whether the ousting of Zelaya is right or wrong, the reaction of our President to the coup have been very enlightening.

Open Letter To The Traitors In The House

I have sent emails to the eight Republicans that crossed the aisle to support and pass the greatest tax the American people have experienced in a long time.  The phone lines were full and burned up.  I hope that whatever these people were offered was worth the betrayal of We The People.  Here is the general email I sent:

“I am not in your district, nor your state, but my money can go anywhere and I will be watching your re-election very closely as I lend financial support to any conservative that runs against you.  Thank you for the additional money I will see on my energy bill to the tune of $.50 a day.  And all the talk of rebates is laughable as we all know that the government’s money comes from us.  What exactly were you offered to pass this thing and where are your principles?”  Did you bother to read the entire bill?  I am sure the answer is “no” since even Superman speedreading could not have read the bill which totaled over one thousand pages, hundreds of which were added barely twelve hours before the vote in the middle of the night.  Carol Browner, the Climate Czar, admitted on FOX News that she had not read the entire bill, but vast portions.  You all must really believe we are stupid.  We will not abide the continued running over of our freedoms and desires while you do not even provide us the full competancy of at least reading the laws you are enslaving us through.  We do not forget and I promise the eight Republicans that voted for this bill that your names and numbers will appear on the back of the sign I will hoist at the two Tea Parties I attend this Independence weekend while you enjoy your time off spending my tax dollars.”

I guess this is just more fuel for my grassfire as I declare, “Fire them all!”

RINOs Betray Principles To Pass Carbon Tax

capandtax2

President Obama was quick to urge senators to pass the Cap & Trade Bill that passed the House yesterday afternoon despite efforts by the American people to stop the bill from passing because it equates to the largest tax ever leveled at the American people.  It is a job killer and an economy slower.  Yesterday, Mike Pence told Sean Hannity that we needed to worry about Democrats rather than Republicans, but the truth appears to be that we need to worry about Republicans because eight of them helped to pass this bill.  Forty-four Democrats crossed the aisle to vote against the bill.  Obama equated voting for this bill to having courage.

The President used his weekly radio address to put pressure on the Senate, “My call to every senator, as well as to every American, is this, we cannot be afraid of the future. And we must not be prisoners of the past. Don’t believe the misinformation out there that suggests there is somehow a contradiction between investing in clean energy and economic growth.”  The President is the one delivering misinformation.  This bill could add as much as $2,000 to people’s yearly energy bills.

Obama also claimed that the bill will “spur the development of low-carbon sources of energy — everything from wind, solar and geothermal power to safer nuclear energy and cleaner coal.”

“We passed transformational legislation, which will take us into the future,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, after the 219-212 vote.  This legislation will transform, but not necessarily in the way America needs.  Particularly when one thinks about the fact that global warming is a farce and has never been scientifically proven.  “For some it was a very difficult vote because the entrenched agents of the status quo were out there full force, jamming the lines in their districts and here, and they withstood that,” Pelosi said.

The vote marked the first time either house of Congress has passed legislation to curb global warming gases. The bill contained 1,200 pages, three hundred of which were added as a seperate amendment in the middle of the night the day before the vote.  The American people are not stupid.  We know that this bill was not read just as the Porkulus Bill was not read.  I imagine that the amendment contains several pay-offs for representatives that voted for the bill.

“The bill is not perfect, but it is a good product for the Senate,” Reid said. “Working with the president and his team, I am hopeful that the Senate will be able to debate and pass bipartisan and comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation this fall.”

The government still maintains that this Carbon Bill will create millions of new jobs despite the fact that Spain has had very different results.  For every one job that their clean energy economy has created, two have been lost.  If this bill would create the leader in the global economy, would not Spain be the leader of the world economy right now since they lead in this area?  This is just more cram down for Americans.  Now we have a new spark to light our fire for this next weekend’s Tea Parties.

Live Blogging ABC Healthcare Infomercial

I’m live blogging the infomercial so refresh for updates.

Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer are hosting and thank President for allowing them to use White House – yeah right.  The White House wanted them there.

Charlie asks how many think system needs to be changed and every hand goes up.  He asks how many think it should stay the same and no one raises their hand.  President Obama jokes that he would like to stop there.

Obama is asked if he would do whatever it takes to get the very best coverage for his family and he yammers about his grandmother’s broken hip and that he would like to get the best care, but…the staus quo is untenable.  Healthcare is bankrupting families and government.  The President is asked who is going to design and enforce.  President wants something uniquely American.  Wants everyone to have adequate service while driving down costs.  President has confidence in doctors to do what is best for patients, but rules make it hard for them to do what is appropriate.  So doctor’s today don’t care about patients?

An email reminds the President that the Mayo Clinic is already accomplishing what needs to be done at a good price in the private sector, so why get the government involved?  The President says ten years from now, people won’t be happy with their healthcare anymore because it will be too expensive.  Does he have proof of that?  Nope – no proof given via graphs, etc.  We just have to believe what he says.  Charlie asks about the need to figure out the specifics before we pass a bill and the President starts stammering about MediCare being loved by seniors, but not being good.  What is lacking is political will according to the President.

The President says we need more primary healthcare professionals and so we need to change incentives about becoming a family physician.  He wants less specialists!  Tell that to my thyroid!  We need to incentivize good healthcare – because doctors do not want to give it now?!  Charlie asks about 46 million uninsured and we only have so many doctors, so how will we get everybody taken care of – Charlie asked a good question for a change.  The answer: Rationing, but President will not say.

Member of AMA asks how is President going to assure the public that the decisions for their treatment will be between them and their doctors.  So far the President’s main answer to everything is that this will take time and not happen overnight.  President says if we are happy with our doctor and plan, we can keep them.  But we know the truth.  The private sector cannot compete with a subsidized government plan.  He is talking about an exchange where people can compare plans and sign up for the plans that work for them.  Doctors will be reimbursed based on qualities of outcome rather than tests, etc. done.  What?!

A woman asks if there will be a cut off for medical care based on age and quality of life since her mother is age 105.  Obama claims that this is not a big government program he is talking about and he suggests we all do Living Wills.  He doesn’t want the government making those decisions, but…aren’t these decisions already being made that way.  Umm, no Mr. President, the government is not making those decisions.  He suggests that perhaps a pain killer would be given rather than surgery.  He has no idea what he is talking about.  This woman’s mother had a pacemaker put in at age 100.  The cost was $30,000, so she wonders if the government would have allowed it.  Then the President talks about his “experts” that will be looking into these types of things.

Charlie is talking cost and mentions the $2 trillion number.  A man asks who will pay for this and how and how much will government intrude in his life?  President wants to regulate insurers so they have to cover pre-existing conditions so more people will be covered.  President talks about how costs are already out of whack – so he is going to make it worse?!  The President says his adminstration says that whatever they do, they pay for without adding to deficit.  There will be re-allocated dollars already in healthcare system.  Uh huh…One third of payments will come from new revenue – uh that would be taxes!  The CBO will not credit Obama with the savings he is pointing out.  Wah Wahhh!  The CBO is non-partisan and honest.

The President is confident that the stars are aligned between drug companies and doctors and everyone else and we need to have courage and compromise to get this to go.  If we keep our eye on the prize, then the President is confident we will succeed this time.

And it ended as lamely as it began.  Nothing new was discussed, just the same old talking points which equate to lies when coming from Barack Obama.  And how many commercials breaks did this thing have?  Now we know why the All Barack Channel ran this thing – Cha Ching!

Republican Infidelity Continues With Mark Sanford

I expect infidelity from the left.  I have come to expect it from Republicans as well.  It would seem that politics and infidelity go hand in hand.  What I did not expect was to hear that South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was not just taking some erratic break to hike the Appalachian Trail, but that he was in Argentina continuing an eight year affair.  Mark Sanford held a press conference today and confessed that what had started out as a friendship eight years ago had grown into a full blown affair this year.  I personally could care less when the “spark” he talked about started.  Obviously, an emotional affair started far longer than just a year ago.

Thankfully, Sanford’s wife did not stand next to him as he publically confessed his sin.  His confession sounded hollow as he barely spoke about the pain he must have caused everyone involved and practically sounded like a lovestruck school boy describing details of his illicit affair.  He said he would step down as President of the GOP Governor’s Association, but made no indication of whether he will step down as governor.  I have a feeling that the people of South Carolina will be impeaching him – not necessarily for the infidelity, but for the erratic behavior he engaged in over the past few days.   His behavior of leaving town without telling anyone, including his family, where he was going and being out of contact had me scratching him off my 2012 list of presidential possibilities.  The affair only solidifies that conclusion for me.

Sanford has taken the eye off the ball for conservatives and the media as they focus on this and forget that a healthcare infomercial is scheduled tonight and Cap & Trade is set to come to a vote on Friday.  So I’m done talking about this and ready to get back to work.  There are more important items to focus on then the selfishness of yet another politician.

President Obama Press Conference June 23rd, 2009

The President opened up his daytime solo press conference today with a brief statement covering Iran, a clean energy economy and healthcare.  The President’s comments on Iran were finally condemning of the government’s violence against the protestors.  I predicted on Saturday that he would come out yesterday more firmly as he caved to pressure, so I guess I was off by a day.  The President still does not understand freedom and his statements still came across as lukewarm at best.  He made sure to emphasize that America is not meddling despite the fact that Iran already has blamed us for the protests.

Obama actually said that “the Iranian people are trying to have a debate about their future.”  Funny, I could have sworn that these were protests on the street, not debates.  The term “debate” comes off as silly and incongruent from a man who claims to be a community organizer, so he would be a specialist in protesting.  Then the President patted himself on the back as he brought up his speech in Cairo again – are we ever going to get past hearing about how great a job he did there?  Most common sense people saw the Cairo speech for what it was:  empty words from an empty man who gets more out of saying resplendent prose, than following through with deeds that would make a difference.  The hollowness of the Cairo speech has been evidenced by the President’s inability over the past week to strongly condemn the Iranian leadership, bear witness to the obvious voting fraud that took place and to uphold the Iranian youth who were obviously begging the outside world to hear them through their signs written in English.  Obama obviously did not mean a word of his speech about American ideals and values that are shared by other countries in the world.

The President warned us that the carbon tax is coming our way this week as well as he brought up his farcicle clean energy economy again which will only devastate our economy.  The President said incentives would be offered that “could create millions of new jobs in America.”  Excuse me – could?!  I guess he is not making big promises anymore since his track record has been to break nearly every promise he has made.  And there is no proof that the nation that leads in clean energy will lead the 21st century’s global economy.

Then the President promised that the healthcare bill that Congress and he put together must be paid for without adding to the deficit.  A statistical impossibility unless, of course, you tax the people – all the people.  The middle class can be expected to be hit hardest especially since healthcare benefits for those making $100,000 and over will be taxed.  I expect that margin to drop to $50,000 by the time the bill is passed.

Questions were heavily slanted towards the Iranian crisis.  Major Garrett of FOX News pressed the President on whether Iranian diplomats were still invited to U.S. embassies for the 4th of July and the President indicated that the invitations still stand.  When another reporter asked if the offer to negotiate with Iranian leadership still stood, the President answered that they are waiting to see how things play out first with the protests.  I guess dead peaceful protestors is not a strong enough indication to our illustrious leader that negotiations with this regime are neither likely, nor desirable.  The mealy mouthed positions of our pantywaist leader are truly terrifying in the dangerous world in which we live.  A reporter from Huffington Post asked a question from an Iranian about under what conditions would Obama accept the election of Ineedajob?  The President could not even say that he believed there was fraud involved despite the fact that the Guardian group there that was recounting votes admitted that the numbers reveal that there had to have been fraud involved.

Do the Kool-Aid drinkers see yet the errors of their ways when they voted for this peaceful community organizer?  He is trying to community organize the world.  It does not work!

What Is Up With Governor Mark Sanford?

One of the voices of reason and conservativism in the Republican Party has been South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and many people have been hoping that he will throw his hat in the ring and run for president in 2012.  He had a high profile fight over stimulus money that South Carolina was suppose to receive from the Porkulus Bill.  He only wanted to accept some of the funds to pay down debt, but his state legislature overruled him and he was forced to take the funds.  I was proud of his fight, but now I find myself questioning whether Mark Sanford should be a key leader for the Republican Party.

On Thursday, the Governor left town with plans to hike the Appalachian Mountain Trail.  His spokesman knew only that much about the Governor’s plans.  The spokesman is apparently the only one who knows even that much.  Mark Sanford’s own family, including his wife, have no idea where he is and that is not normal, especially considering that it was Father’s Day on Sunday and Sanford has four sons.  He supposedly is expected back later this week.  His staff has been unable to reach him.

This behavior seems strange to me and not the work of a responsible individual.  No one is sure if he took security with him and he did not turn over responsibilities to his Lt. Governor Andrew Bauer.  People are wondering who is in charge of the state since Sanford cannot be reached.  These actions do not seem like something a man of common sense would engage in and it really leaves me dumbfounded.  It is understandable if someone needs some time away, but for even his own wife to be clueless seems strange.

One thing is for certain for me.  I can scratch Mark Sanford off my presidential wish list.  We already have enough insanity in Washington without adding someone who seems to have gotten erratic over this stimulus battle.   He may come back later this week and say that he wants nothing more to do with politics because the uphill battle is too much or just claim he needed to clear his head.  Either way, America needs strong leadership right now and these actions do not signal strength to me.

Neda – The New Cry For Freedom

An Iranian young person’s idea of freedom and my own ideas about freedom are more than likely not the same thing in every minute detail, but our ideas about freedom do share the common thread that we will not be governed without a voice by a facist military complex directed by an obtuse theocracy.  The protestors in Iran have switched from their original cries of voter fraud and support for opposition leader Mousavi, to a broader demonstration against the Iranian leadership.  This weekend, the murder of a woman named “Neda” (a Farsi term that means the voice or the call) brought about a clear vision for the protestors and a new cry in their march for freedom.

A video has been making the rounds on cable news, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube of this young woman who had apparently been shot while protesting by either a police officer, pro-government militant or some kind of accidental shooting, but regardless of where the shot came from, the video is a stark reminder of the risks involved in speaking out in a country where there is not the freedom of speech we enjoy in America.  There has been no freedom of the press either which has left most news agencies scrambling for footage they can get from any source since they are not on the ground.  We are also reminded what happens in a country that is unarmed against the government.   Neda has become the symbol for the protestors in a crisis that continues to escalate, even as our President gives tepid responses about being  “deeply troubled”.  Any strong response from him now would be too little, too late.  The man has revealed his soul to us once again as he was confronted with this crisis.  The call of freedom means nothing to this man.  He would rather have peace at all costs and bow before the feet of our enemies if that is what it takes to leave a legacy of peace in his personal history.  He obviously does not understand that peace will never come to the Middle East and that it would serve America and the world better if he joined the world in condemning the acts of the Iranian leadership.  Stand up for freedom, Mr. President!

The AP is reporting about the traditions of the Muslim faith that are going to play a key role in these protests, “For the cycles of mourning in Shiite Islam actually provide a schedule for political combat – a way to generate or revive momentum. Shiite Muslims mourn their dead on the third, seventh and 40th days after a death, and these commemorations are a pivotal part of Iran’s rich history. During the revolution, the pattern of confrontations between the shah’s security forces and the revolutionaries often played out in 40-day cycles.”  This same occurence took place during 1978 and 1979 when several clashes lead to the Shah of Iran being overthrown.  Could we witness the same type of overthrow of the Iranian leadership now?

Neda has also been referred to as a martyr which is important in tradition as well.  There is a belief among the Shiites that martyrdom is central to modern politics as well as Shiite tradition.  They have used their observances of martyrs to carry them through the 1979 revolution and the war with Iraq.  The protests have crossed an important milestone and I pray that they continue because the overthrow of the current government could be a very good thing for the world as long as the youth of Iran choose their new leadership wisely.  A leadership that believes in embracing the outside world and cooperation with that world.

Neda, Neda, Neda – the cry for freedom!

Ayatollah Squashes Iranian Protests

A couple of days ago, I wondered if the protests of the Iranian people would make any difference.  Apparently in Iran they have not in the case of the leadership.  But the world has been touched by the passions of the people to have their voices heard.  Most Americans support the Iranian people and their protests despite the fact that the President has mostly been silent on the matter not wanting to appear as though he was meddling.  The Ayatollah in Friday prayers announced definitively that the vote was not a fraud and that no new voting would take place.  He declared Ahmadinejad the winner in a landslide and sternly warned protestors that there would be a crackdown on any new protests.  He offered no concessions and there was word that Mousavi had been told that he was to appear with the Ayatollah during prayers.  Mousavi did not appear.

The Ayatollah is granted virtually unlimited powers by the Iranian constitution.  Khamenei accused foreign media and America of meddling and stiring up the chaos in Iran.  “Some of our enemies in different parts of the world intended to depict this absolute victory, this definitive victory, as a doubtful victory,” he said. “It is your victory. They cannot manipulate it.”  Khamenei also commented, “If the difference was 100,000 or 500,000 or 1 million, well, one may say fraud could have happened. But how can one rig 11 million votes?”

Will the Iranian people continue to demonstrate?  Will they try to start a rebellion and overthrow the current leadership?  I believe the latter is the only thing that will make a difference in the lives of the Iranian people.  And unless our President sends out the message that we will support the Iranian people, they may not have the courage to make that move.  Where is a Ronald Reagan when you need one?
