Nothing screams that global warming is a farce more then record lows in Florida in October and November. Just now, I’m shivering in my home with a windchill of 32 degrees outside. Northerners are rolling their eyes, but that is darn cold down here. It is colder everywhere, but I’m sure Al Gore is paying somebody off to come up with some good theory. And speaking of pay offs, have you heard how China has racked up some of their carbon credits – it will make your head spin.
Yesterday, I was listening to the Glenn Beck show and he had the author of “Red Hot Lies”, Christopher Horner, on for an interview. In the middle of the discussion Glenn mentioned that China wanted to sell us carbon credits that they had racked up because of aborted babies. It seems that if you lower your population by not allowing human beings to be born, you save on carbon emissions. Great theory, eh? Chris Horner claimed that China had said publically that their family planning policies had lead to their having these carbon credits and a smaller carbon footprint. I investigated and found this at Reuters from August 2007:
“China says its one-child policy has helped the fight against global warming by avoiding 300 million births, the equivalent of the population of the United States…The number of births avoided equals the entire population of the United States. Beijing says that fewer people means less demand for energy and lower emissions of heat-trapping gases from burning fossil fuels.”
And what is China’s Family Planning Policy exactly? Here is what Wikipedia says, “The Chinese government introduced the policy in 1979 to alleviate social, economic, and environmental problems in China, and authorities claim that the policy has prevented 250 million births from its implementation to 2000. The policy is controversial both within and outside China because of the manner in which the policy has been implemented, and because of concerns about negative economic and social consequences. The policy has been implicated in an increase in of forced abortions and female infanticide, and has been suggested as a possible cause behind China’s significant gender imbalance. Nonetheless, a 2008 survey undertaken by the Pew Research Center showed that over 75% of the Chinese population supports the policy.”
Glenn came up with a conclusion that I share. Not only are we financing abortions here in America, but now we will be financing abortions in China if we start buying carbon credits from them. And the most disgusting part of this whole issue is the fact that global warming is a farce. Carbon credits are a farce. Common sense tells any sane person that money doesn’t buy away pollution. So China wants a pat on the back and to have their policy looked at with favor for a theory that is bullshit. Watch for the changes coming in the new Kyoto treaty next year which President-elect Barack Obama already supports.

I agree the whole global warming thing is an alarmist reaction to a natural climactic cycle, and the carbon credit thing… what does one get for buying a carbon credit, absolution of conscience, so one doesn’t have to change their polluting habits? Did you read John Stossel’s findings on global warming in his book Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity?

Yes, China’s human rights are abysmal. Case in point, the story of this Chinese woman, who is being forced to abort her child. She is six months along: http://feminine-genius.typepad.com/femininegenius/2008/11/feel-the-love.html
All this based on the sham that is global warming. I have a theory on why a party would want to “own” this issue: One could restrict anyone from doing anything if it meant “saving the planet.”

Appreciate your blog today. Can’t verify your Wikipedia quotes. But here is a Reuter’s article that states the same stats Beijing is bragging on: http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSL3047203920070830.

I don’t pay that much attention to global warming because it’s such crap. Let’s take the excess bucks we’ll all have from the Obama tax breaks and buy these carbon credits from China and then sell them to Uzbekistan for yak fleece which is something we could really use (I’m freezing, too.)

Lindy – thanks for the links. You’ve probably been on this for months, but this was news to me. I knew about the family planning stuff and rules, but not that China was touting it as a plus due to global warming alarmism.
Linda – I’m sure you were rolling your eyes at me. I’m used to cold, dry winters in Colorado – this cold humidity stinks! I’m sure Ohio is that way as well. I’m actually just leaving my car running 24/7 outside to help warm the earth quicker.
HeartQuest – I have yet to read Stossel’s book, but I have heard him in interviews talking about global warming and he’s great. Glenn Beck covered the topic well in his book “An Inconvenient Book” as well.
Genevieve – Thanks for the link!

Stossel is a moron. You are all f**ks. (Edited for language.)

Hmm…and Bob is calling us all morons even though his apparent grasp of the English language is very limited.
